A £6.5m scheme to refurbish and extend the John O’Groats House Hotel and create 23 new luxury holiday residences. The first tangible development in the stunning and extreme landscape in the most northerly point of mainland Britain. Natural Land have transformed the recipient of the ‘2010 Carbuncle Award – Most dismal town in Scotland’ into an award winning, luxury destination. Natural Land worked closely with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the Scottish Government’s economic and community development agency for the North Highlands, to regenerate one of Scotland’s most famous tourist destinations.
This unique area of Northern Scotland includes abundant wildlife, the Orkney Islands, history, culture, golf and Whisky distributors. HIE committed £1.8m of funding along with Natural Land to Phase 1 of the development, which included the construction of 23 detached luxury timber holiday residences, the refurbishment and extension of the historic John O’Groats Hotel (est. 1875) into a 16 apartment Inn and refurbishment/extension of the Storehouse and Outfitters activity center, including 10 meter RIB for sea safaris.
